Hi I tried this wine many years ago and still enjoy a glass of it today, it was the first red wine I started drinking and have referred it on to many people who now enjoy drinking it as well.

My mum is coming to stay with us in Australia from NZ. She thinks Velluto Rosso is an Australian wine and I know it is not. Can anyone tell me of an Australian red wine that would be most similar in taste so I can get it before she arrives………..

We thought that WE were ignorant about wine – but…

These are NOT “types of wine” – they are varieties of grape. Yes, some can be drunk individually as varietals, but most are blended together into a “type of wine” – so Bordeaux, for instance, is a blend of two or three different varietals.

And this is by no means a comprehensive list of varietals! Ever heard of Grenache? Pinotage? The list goes on…
